“We are not intended to replace emergencies”: a new care center opens in Manosque

The opening took place discreetly on the ground floor of the La Vista health center. Since October 11, Pôle Med, an unscheduled care center, has welcomed patients without an appointment for a simple medical consultation, an infusion, a mild trauma or even pediatric care. Every day, from Monday to Friday, an emergency doctor and a nurse provide consultations from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

We have an agreement with the laboratories which will allow us to have machines to also be able to carry out delocalized biology and some examinations.“, details Dr Émile Boulos, who opened the structure with four partners, all doctors or nurses.

A “complementary” care center

The center consists of a waiting room, two consultation rooms, one for the doctor and the other for the nurse, as well as two treatment rooms.

We can lay people down and do slightly more technical treatments like sutures or casts.“, specifies Émile Boulos. But, despite the difficulties experienced by the emergency department of the Manosque hospital, only a few hundred meters from Pôle Med, it insists: “We do not intend to replace it.” The structure is intended to be complementary, like a care center halfway between community medicine and an emergency service.

For her part, Camille Galtier, mayor of Manosque, sees the arrival of this care center with a positive eye, while 3,000 of her residents do not currently have a treating doctor and the closures of the emergency rooms of the hospital have been going on for several months.

The patients who will be treated here will be as many people on the bobology who will not congest the hospitalestimates the first magistrate. My hope is also that the La Vista doctors upstairs can then take over from the patients who come here because they do not have an attending physician.

It’s a system that works very well. There are more than thirty of these centers in Bouches-du-Rhône, but this is the first here in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department.“, adds Dr Boulos, who nevertheless confides that he had difficulty getting the general practitioners of Peyrolles-en-Provence to accept his center of the same type created there in 2018.

But over the years, we see that relationships have greatly improved. They even send us patients“, continues Dr Boulos.

Ultimately, the center should open its doors one more day each week, on Saturday, during the same hours.
