Pro League Clubs’ Strong Performance in UEFA Coefficient Rankings: Belgium’s Path to Top 10

It’s become a little habit. After each European game, we scrutinize the rankings to see where Belgium stands in terms of the UEFA coefficient. Thanks to its three victories (Ghent, Union, Bruges) its draw (Genk) and its defeat (Antwerp), the Pro League clubs performed rather well during this past week.

As a reminder, a victory in Europe brings back 0.400 points, a draw 0.200 and zero for a defeat. In addition to being decisive for qualification, Burgess’s goal in the last minute for the Brussels residents also brings 0.2 additional points for the Belgian clubs.

This week, they brought back 1,400 points from their meetings all over Europe. In the ranking, Belgium is still eighth. Turkey was only able to add 0.500 points this time but has had a better campaign since the start of the season with 8750 points reported this season compared to 7400 for Belgium.

The real importance is to outrun all the countries that are outside the top 10. In this little game, we are doing better than all our pursuers since Austria or Switzerland have taken 3200 and 3000 points respectively.

Last season, Pro League clubs had a historic season with 14,200 points reported. A total that will be very hard to achieve this season. Even if this year has been a good year so far since with 7,400 points, we are already higher than the totals for the 2021-22 (6,600) and 2020-21 (6,000) seasons.

Remember that a place in the top 10 ensures at least one club directly qualified in C1. Which wasn’t the case this season because we had fallen down the rankings due to a disastrous year. Fortunately, this will not last long as Belgium will regain its place in the top 10.
