We’ll have to be very patient before we get any news regarding The Elder Scrolls 6. That’s in any case what says Bruce Nesmith, former developer at Bethesda, who recently revealed more regarding the studio’s marketing strategy.
TES 6 is not regarding to show itself
We will have to be patient before we can learn more regarding The Elder Scrolls VI. At least that’s what Bruce Nesmith, a former developer at Bethesda who worked as lead designer on The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim, on the YouTube channel MinnMax. According to the developer, Bethesda should not reveal any major information regarding TES 6 at best six months before the game’s release. According to him, this marketing strategy would be the one adopted by Todd Howard, the emblematic figure of Bethesda and director of most of the studio’s games.
The company was attacked for years for not having talked regarding The Elder Scrolls 6. (…) Because according to Todd (Howard)’s point of view – which I share by the way – the games industry video has a short memory. Studios that tout the merits of their games years before release are sabotaging themselves. The best time to talk regarding a game is regarding six months before its release.
An early reveal to satisfy fans?
Obviously, Bruce Nesmith’s statements are not definitive. Already because the studio has not always operated in this way, proof is with Starfield, but also because The Elder Scrolls 6 has already been revealed with a short teaser broadcast during E3 2018. Concerning this early reveal, here once more Bruce Nesmith has his say. For him, the short teaser broadcast was only intended to reassure fans.
It was just because the torches and pitchforks were out that Todd said, “Yes, we’re going to make The Elder Scrolls 6. I promise! It’s real! It’s going to happen!”, but I bet you You’re not going to learn a lot of details until six months from the game’s release, and that’s how it should work. I think this is the best approach. This has worked very well for Bethesda in the past.
If the game is still very far from its release date, now that Bethesda belongs to Microsoft, it might be that the parent company decides to review its marketing strategy, especially given the popularity of The Elder Scrolls. Regardless, with a release targeted for by 2026, it’s certain that The Elder Scrolls won’t be showing up anytime soon. To get your dose of Bethesda, it’s better to turn to Starfield, or the Fallout series which should be released next April on Prime Video.
