In fact, the SMN issued a yellow alert for storms for the center, east and south of Córdoba.

Yellow alert for storms: SMN recommendations

The yellow level alert implies “possible meteorological phenomena with the potential for damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities.” Given this, the SMN issued the following recommendations:

  • Secure objects that can be thrown by the wind.
  • Stay away from trees as the force of the wind might break some of their branches.
  • Do not park your vehicle under trees.
  • Keep your house closed as airtight as possible.
  • Get informed from authorities. If you or someone else is affected by this phenomenon, contact local emergency agencies.
  • Always have an emergency backpack ready with a flashlight, radio, documents and telephone.

Recommendations from the Highway Police due to storm:

The General Directorate of Highway Police reported the following recommendations in response to the alert issued by the SMN:

  • Given the loss of visibility due to suspended dust or rain, I reduced my speed without braking on the road or shoulder.
  • Remember that on wet roads the vehicle’s grip level decreases.
  • Increase the safety distance between vehicles and avoid overtaking.
  • If you stop, move as far away from the shoulder as possible (in case of rain you run the risk of bogging the vehicle) and look for a safe place until visibility improves. Beacons should only be used if you are completely stopped.
