Clauss’ beautiful tribute to Vitinha: “No one doubts him”
Jonathan Clauss at the microphone of RMC Sport: “We have to translate good performances into victories. We needed to quickly raise our heads following Nice, that’s what we did in the most beautiful way this evening. How to explain equalizer? It’s difficult. I find that’s often the case. We have difficulty getting back into it in the second half, we lose the rhythm we put in in the first half and there are a few dips in the a match. But this one, I find it a little more blatant, we will have to discuss to understand what is happening. But we knew how to react.”
On Vitinha: “No one doubts him, at least not us. If he lacks confidence, it’s perhaps also because the media say so. He’s a straight guy, he knows what “he has to do, he works a lot, he doesn’t count his efforts. Today he is rewarded, it’s so much the better for him and for us.”
Harit’s reaction to W9’s microphone
“You have to know how to handle pressure. In a club like Marseille, it is there every day. I am happy for the team and for me.
We had a very good first half, we were in control, we didn’t concede any chances. We can put a second one. We need to work on the start of periods. The important thing is the three points with a controlled game before Sunday’s match.”
Marseille provisionally leader of group B
In a lively Vélodrome, OM finally won their first European match once morest AEK Athens (3-1). Rarely put in danger, the Marseillais took advantage of opposing errors to score via Vitinha, Harit and Veretout. Pineda reduced the score shortly following the break.
With this success, the Marseillais are provisionally leaders of group B, pending the opposition at 9 p.m. between Brighton and Ajax Amsterdam.
Aubameyang attempts the lob
Athanasiadis misses his restart. Struggling with Moukoudi, Aubameyang enters the area and tries to lob the advanced goalkeeper. It goes above the frame.
Nouvel arrêt de Athanasiadis
Full axis and close to the surface, Kondogbia places a low shot forcing the goalkeeper to relax to score a 4th goal.
Marseille still dominates
Time passes and Marseille no longer forces its talent to ensure its lead. Without solutions, the Greeks are unable to watch OM play.
Nadir’s initiative
First opportunity for Nadir who is served by Aubameyang to the right of the area. Taken from the left, the shot is deflected by a defender, but the referee indicates a goal clearance.
Additional time:
There will be 8 extra minutes in this match.
Changes in Marseille
Triple change at OM with the exits of Veretout, Clauss and Balerdi for Murillo, Nadir and Meité.
GOAL REFUSED FOR SARR
What work from Ndiaye who hits and keeps the ball once morest Moukoudi. He shifts to the right for Sarr who, from a tight angle, manages to hit and deceive Athanasiadis and a defender. but it was finally refused for offside.
Jonsson sanctioned
Jonsson is penalized for a foul close to the Marseille camp.
Athanasiadis strong once morest Aubameyang
Off-center on the right in the area, Aubameyang gets on his left foot to unleash a powerful shot to find the top corner. Athanasiadis is strong and pushes back with both fists.
Sarr close to the 4th goal!
New breakthrough from Clauss who once once more delivers a superb cross for Sarr alone in the middle. The Senegalese opens his right foot and cuts, but the goalkeeper lies down and pushes back for a corner.
Aubameyang outstripped
Mbemba clears for Clauss on the right who places a long cross this time caught by the goalkeeper. Aubameyang was on the lookout for the offering.
Double change at OM.
Harit and Vitinha are replaced by Sarr and Aubameyang. Both players are applauded by the audience.
AEK side: Galanopoulos and Eliasson replace Amrabat and Szymanski.
Marseille leader of the group
Great evening for Marseille, which temporarily occupies first place in its group. Be careful not to scare yourself at the end though. Brighton and Ajax have yet to play.
Good match from Kondogbia
What a match from Kondogbia so precious via his long balls. The midfielder still finds a partner on the left, but the opposing defense manages to free himself.
VERETOUT FOR THE BREAK
Veretout opens his right foot and like Harit, he wrong-foots the goalkeeper who is definitely experiencing a very complicated entry. The break is done! 3-1 for OM!
Penalty for OM!
Superb dip from Kondogbia to find Lodi who is in control but is hit by Amrabat who concedes the 2nd penalty and takes a yellow.
Precious Ndiaye
Far from his surface, Mbemba catches Zuber. Amrabat plays the free kick short, but Ndiaye quickly extinguishes the Greeks’ attempts with a recovery on Zubar.
Marseille big favorite
This red is a real turning point in this second act which turned rather to the advantage of the Greeks. But thanks to an error from Stankovic, OM has a numerical superiority and has the weapons to win this first match in Europe.
HARIT GIVES THE ADVANTAGE BACK TO OM
Harit presents himself once morest Athanasiadis. The Moroccan opens his right foot and takes the goalkeeper on the wrong foot. 2-1 for OM.
Forced change for AEK
As a result of this red, the replacement goalkeeper Athanasiadis takes the place of the decisive passer Mantalos.
Stankovic sent off!
For all of his work, Stankovic takes a logical red.
Penalty for OM!
What a gift from Stankovic! In no hurry, the goalkeeper completely misses his raise and gives it to Vitinha who was lurking. The Portuguese wants to get back into the line, but is held back by the goalkeeper who has taken yellow, but might ultimately be sent off.
PINEDA EQUALS FOR AEK
On the left, Mantalos crosses back for Pineda who misses his first attempt. Not attacked, the striker can resume and crucify this time Blanco remains on the spot. 1-1!
Amrabat at fault on Lodi
Amrabat is probably the most prominent attacking element for the Greeks, but the winger is at fault following having surrounded Lodi on his side. OM takes the time to build immediately.
Ponce already wanted
Right flank, Amrabat places a very good cross at ground level to find Ponce in the middle. Mbemba anticipates and cuts off the experienced winger’s pass.
Sidibé sort
AEK made a new change with the exit of Sidibé for the former Lille player Ponce.
The match resumes!
It’s back to the Vélodrome. Led by a single goal, the Greeks engage.
Short advantage for OM at the break
Serious since the kick-off, OM leads with a score of 1-0 thanks to a goal from Vitinha who regains a starting place. Ndiaye twice came up once morest Stankovic who made the necessary saves.
Leader of the group at kick-off, AEK Athens is very discreet offensively. The Greeks still thought they would equalize before the break via Zuber, but there was an offside.
Goal disallowed for AEK
On a poorly cleared free kick, AEK recovered and Zuber was found alone in the area. The scorer crosses his shot and deceives Blanco, but it is refused for offside. On the Greek bench, Rota took a yellow for protest.
Additional time:
There will be 5 minutes more in this first act.
Very quiet Blanco
Very quiet first act for Blanco who replaces the injured Lopez in the cages. It must be said that the Greeks’ offensives are very rare, although there were opportunities from free kicks.
First change at AEK
Injured in the ribs, Hajsafi is replaced by Mohammadi.
Hajsafi injured
Hard blow for AEK with Hajsafi who remains on the ground and needs trainers. A change is going to take place.
Vida keeps the danger away
New distant and axial free kick following a late intervention by Mantalos on Kondogbia. Clauss only finds Vida’s head.
Balerdi reassuring
Hajsafi is found on the left and shifts for Zuber. The scorer tries to dribble past Balerdi, but the latter remains solid on his feet and recovers. Good defense from the Argentinian.
Dangerous snakes
Vitinha gets a free kick from more than 30 meters away. Clauss swings and it’s deflected by a defender. Vitinha prowls to the left of the area, and puts it back on the opposite side for Mbemba who struggles to recover. It was difficult to clear by the Greeks.
AEK in the tough
At the Vélodrome, AEK puts little pressure on the Olympians. Whether via counterattacks or free kicks, the Greeks are imprecise and do not seem to be having a good day.
Clauss sanctioned
Yellow for Clauss guilty of letting his arm drag over Hajsafi’s face. The following free kick is taken by Moukoudi. His head goes over it.
Confidence for Vitinha
On the bench for several weeks, Vitinha finally finds the net. Enough to give him confidence, and why not relaunch the competition with Aubameyang who is on the bench.
VITINHA OPENS THE SCORE
Excellent pass from Harit to the right to launch Clauss who shifts to the left for Vitinha who slips the ball into the empty goal. After discussing with those managing the video, the referee awards the goal. A foul on Vida was demanded by the Greeks.
Hajsafi rate
A little off-center to the right, Hajsafi hits straight from the left, but it flies over Blanco’s goal. The Vélodrome audience can breathe easy!
Very good free kick for AEK
Marseille scares itself a little with Sidibé’s deep pass for Zuber. Late, Balerdi tackles the scorer on the edge of the area. Danger ahead for OM.
NDIAYE FALLS AGAIN ON STANKOVIC
Ndiaye once more! Found in the area by Kondogbia, the Senegalese puts power into his right shot, and forces Stankovic to lie down to push back the ball which was flying into the side net.
Ndiaye not clinical enough
Interesting due to his technical qualities, Ndiaye still lacks edge in the last gesture, like his last opportunity. Marseille is getting back into rhythm.
Ndiaye comes up once morest Stankovic once more!
What an opportunity for OM! On the left, Veretout finds Ndiaye who eliminates a defender via a hook. From a tight angle, the attacker followed up with a right shot, heading straight at Stankovic who had read it correctly.
Discreet Marseille
Surprise starter, Vitinha is not stingy in his efforts to help his teammates, but struggles to exist up front. It must be said that it is complicated for a Marseille attacker to be found and to shine at the moment T
Amrabat shows himself on the right
Small breakthrough from Amrabat before crossing for Zuber. It’s intercepted by an Olympian. The minutes pass, and OM exists less and less. The early pressing is less aggressive.
AEK gains (a little) confidence
The Greeks gain confidence and begin to occupy the Marseille camp. The passes are still imprecise, like a poorly executed reversal of play to the right.
Yellow for Sidibé
Amrabat scratches a foul on the right. Mantalos plays short with Amrabat who wants to give back to his teammate in depth, but it is well read by Vitinha who takes Sidibé’s elbow. Yellow for the side.
Good pressing from OM
AEK plays short to get out of their camp, but the Olympian pressing is very well done. Kondogbia eventually recovers and returns to Blanco.
Ndiaye close to opening the score!
First offensive for OM! Near his camp, Moukoudi misses his restart and throws Ndiaye into the area. The attacker opens his foot but it is a little crushed, and Stankovic quickly lies down to save his team. Ndiaye was offside.
Marseille starts well
First distant free kick for OM. Clauss swings in the area, but it is kept away by Mantalos’ head. OM occupies the opposing camp.
Balanced duel
Big pressure from Sidibé on Kondogbia who falls, but OM keeps possession. The two formations observe each other a little in these first seconds.
Let’s go !
Referee Daniel Stefanski has just whistled the kick-off for this 3rd match of the Europa League group stages. OM are competing in a very lively Vélodrome.
Kick-off imminent
The game will begin in a few moments. Marseillais and Greeks arrive on the lawn of the Vélodrome.
The line-up of AEK Athens
Stankovic – Hajsafi, Moukoudi, Vida, Sidibé – Jonsson, Szymanski – Mantalos, Pineda, Amrabat, Zuber
OM’s lineup with Vitinha
OM’s eleven: White – Claus, Frog, Balerdi, Renan Lodi – Rongier, Kondogbia, Veretout – Green, Vitinha, Ndiaye
One last confrontation… which goes back a long way
You have to go back a long way to see an opposition between Athens and OM. The last time dates back to 1989 during a double confrontation in the Champions League where Marseille won 2-0 in the first leg and drew 1-1 in the return.
AEK surprising leader
Not the loudest name in this group B, AEK Athens is nevertheless leader with 5 points. Proof that the Greeks are not to be taken lightly, they snatched a 2-3 success on the Brighton pitch, before obtaining a draw at home once morest Ajax (1-1). Suffice to say that this match will not be easy for OM.
Promising Marseille
Despite a strong group on paper, OM is doing well with a 2nd place (tied with Ajax). In Amsterdam, the Marseillais avoided a first setback by coming back three times in the match (3-3).
Against Brighton, Gattuso’s men almost won thanks to Mbemba and Veretout, but the English came back at the end of the match. Against Athens, Marseille will have to regain defensive serenity… not easy with the loss of the injured Pau Lopez.
OM and AEK supporters march together in Marseille
As planned, the ultras from OM and AEK joined forces for a “fan walk” in the streets of Marseille. A strong relationship exists between the CU84 (OM Commando Ultras) and the Greeks of the “Original 21”.
The OM group fell
No Pau Lopez, injured this weekend during the defeat in Nice. On the other hand Jonathan Clauss, also affected in this meeting, is very present. Package once morest Nice, Samuel Gigot makes his return.
The complete program for the third day of the Europa League
With a very big shock for Toulouse in particular
Hello everyone and welcome to the OM-AEK Athens live
Third Europa League match this season for OM, who host AEK Athens this Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at the Vélodrome. After two spectacular draws once morest Ajax Amsterdam (3-3) then Brighton (2-2), the Marseillais are aiming for a first European victory this season, once morest the opponent who seems the most accessible on paper.
Gennaro Gattuso’s players are still struggling to find their rhythm. Marseille are only eighth in Ligue 1 following their defeat at Nice last weekend. The Phocéens’ next match will be Olympico once morest OL on Sunday, at the end of the tenth day.
OM-AEK Athens, kick-off at 6:45 p.m. Match broadcast on TV on W9 and Canal+ Foot, to follow live on radio on RMC and in our live text on RMC Sport.
