Despite squandering a large lead, Heat beats Pistons 103-102

MIAMI (AP) — Bam Adebayo scored 22 points, Jimmy Butler finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and the Miami Heat beat the Detroit Pistons 103-102 on Wednesday in what was the first game of the season for the two clubs.

Tyler Herro scored 16 points, Duncan Robinson added 15 and Kevin Love added 13, in addition to grabbing 10 rebounds for the Heat, who led by 19 points with 9:07 left.

Miami blew almost all of that lead and did not score in the final 2:57 minutes.

Cade Cunningham contributed 30 points and nine assists to the Pistons’ cause. Jalen Duren had 17 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four blocks, while Isaiah Stewart had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Killian Hayes scored 10 points.

Detroit trailed by 19 points at the start of the fourth quarter, before mounting a 14-point attack in just 2:43 minutes to get within 94-89. The Pistons got within 103-102 but missed three shots in the final 64 seconds.
