November is often synonymous with grayness and cocooning. To remedy this, several restaurateurs have decided to brighten up this unloved month by offering festive activities that invite us to get out of the house. Here are a few to make great culinary discoveries.

The event is back for a 6th year with a record 80 participating restaurants. The concept is simple: tables d’hôtes of 3 to 5 courses are specially created for the occasion and offered at a reduced price for brunch, lunch or dinner. In addition to the usual price ranges ($25, $45 and $65), this year the organization is adding a formula at $95 per person in some of the largest restaurants in Quebec. “This new category allows you to have even more fun, whether in gastronomy, comfort food where the steakhouse», Enthuses Yann Latouche, president of EvenTouch, which is overseeing this meeting. Epicureans who pay in advance for their menu will receive a prepaid card equivalent to 50% of their purchase before taxes in order to return to a participating establishment following the event. “This allows people to plan and restaurant owners to avoid no shows», Points out the organizer. Is it possible to eat well and pay it forward? In any case, this is the mission of the brand new Saint-Sauveur event, which will take place, you guessed it, in the Saint-Sauveur district. “It’s not a for-profit event, it’s quite unique. The goal is to help merchants, the economic vitality of the neighborhood and the residents of Saint-Sauveur,” explains food columnist Allison Van Rassel, spokesperson for the event and resident of the area. A brunch is organized on Sunday and each ticket, purchased for $50 plus taxes, will allow a person experiencing food insecurity to take part in the meal. The menu will be concocted by chefs Guillaume St-Pierre, from Melba, Louis Bouchard Trudeau and Thania Goyette, from Pied Bleu/Renard et la Chouette, Maxime Chanhda, from Chanhda, and Tim Moroney, from Alentours restaurant. The profits will go to the Durocher Center and Patro Laval, where the event is held. Also on the program: free discovery workshops offered for children by the École hôtelière de la Capitale and gourmet kiosks.

The Michelangelo returns this year with its festive Sundays where we welcome you as the moms Italian. The recipes are inspired by the creations of the matriarch of the Cortina clan, Assunta, who long headed the Michelangelo pasta factory. “My mother keeps tasting the recipes and she tells us to adjust this or that thing,” Monia Cortina, who recently returned to work at the family’s iconic restaurant, tells me. His father, Nicola, who has been promoting Italian cuisine for 50 years, is still very present and enjoys offering grappa to customers between services. On the menu of these copious meals to share in formulas of 2, 4 or 6 people or more, you can notably taste an antipasto, three types of pasta (gnocchi with ragù, OrecchietteItalian sausages and rapini, ravioli with ricotta, spinach and pancetta, cream and parmesan), two meats and a fish, in addition to the classic tiramisu.

The Playa Del Karen pop-up bar returns for the third year to the Tequila Lounge. The Mexican restaurant has an all-inclusive feel to take its customers on a journey into a kitsch environment where Christmas decorations rub shoulders with palm trees. “It’s the most cliché Christmas you can imagine in an all-inclusive,” says owner Ariane Robitaille, who takes full responsibility. The goal is to escape and have a party, while sipping one of the cocktails that have made the place famous or devouring the tacos of Mexican chef Carolina.
