Actress Nathalie Doummar Nominated for the Governor General’s Literary Awards

Actress and playwright Nathalie Doummar received a nomination for the Governor General’s Literary Awards for her play “Mama”, which was a hit with Duceppe over the past year.

The announcement of his nomination was made public by the Canada Council for the Arts, which unveiled the full list of finalists for the Governor General’s Literary Awards on Wednesday morning.

Among the competing authors, the multidisciplinary artist from Mashteuiatsh Soleil Launière was also able to attract the attention of the jury with her piece “Akuteu”, as well as Martin Bellemare (“Charlie, wind behind the navel”), Rébecca Déraspe (“Les glaces”) and Mathieu Gosselin (“Big guys”).

The oceanographer and storyteller Boucar Diouf entered with “Le Bourlingueur de Matungoua” in the Children’s Literature – illustrated books category, while the journalist Michel Jean continues to shine with “Kukum”, which this time appears in the Translation category (from French to English). His work was adapted by Susan Ouriou in Calgary.

The collection of short stories “Galumpf” by Marie Hélène Poitras was selected in the Novels and Short Stories category, as was “L’or des mélèzes” by Carole Labarre, “My son only returned for seven days” by David Clerson, “Sombre est the night” by Brigitte Haentjens and “A postcard from the ocean” by Stéfani Meunier.

The quality of the work of Philippe Bernier Arcand for his essay “Faux rebels: The excesses of political incorrectness” was praised by the jurors. Ditto for Frédéric Bérard (“I accuse the torturers of Omar Khadr”), Dahlia Namian (“The provocative society”), Martine Béland (“Mégaptère”) and Francis Dupuis-Déri (“Panic at the University”) who face him in the category which rewards the attempts.

In total, the peer evaluation committees, formed by the Arts Council, selected 70 books published in Canada for the period 2022-2023, in English and in French.

The 14 winning books will be announced on the LivresGG.ca website on November 8.

The winners will receive a prize of $25,000. The publishing houses of the winning books will receive a $3,000 promotion grant, while the runners-up receive a $1,000 prize.
