Spanish Women’s Golf Team Dominates World Women’s Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, October 25 / WAM / The Spanish women’s golf team topped the World Women’s Amateur Team Championship “Espirito Santo Cup”, which was being held in its 30th edition for the first time in Abu Dhabi and the Middle East with the participation of 36 teams.
The tournament is hosted by the Emirates Golf Federation, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi.
The Spanish team came in first, one stroke ahead of the Canadian team, which finished the first round with 6 strokes under par. The Irish team came third with 5 strokes under par, and India, South Korea and Germany shared fourth place with 4 strokes under par.
In its first participation in the history of the tournament, the Emirati team achieved an encouraging result by scoring 6 strikes above average, following the two best results recorded by Lara Al Shayeb were counted with two strikes above average, as she was the one who shot the first ball to announce the start of the tournament, and Rich won by 4 strikes above average, while Jamie Camero hit 6 under par.
Four players shared the top spot in the singles competitions: Spain’s Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio, ranked third in the world, Ireland’s Sarah Burney, India’s Avani Prashanth, and Japan’s Mamika Shinshi, with a score of 4 under par.
Moroccan Sofia Sharif Al-Sakli achieved the best Arab results in the first round, with a score of two strokes under par, to occupy thirteenth place.
Swedish Ingrid Lindblad, ranked first in the world at the level of amateur players, was satisfied with achieving one stroke under par to occupy nineteenth place in the overall singles standings.
