– From Italy to Nice: a 2024 Tour de France like no other
The next Tour de France will start from Italy for the first time in its history, before ending, once once more, on the Côte d’Azur. The poster is attractive.

The Paris Olympic Games oblige, the next Grande Boucle will not be at all like the others. The finish will be judged in Nice on August 11, 2024, at the end of an individual time trial whose start will be given in Monaco, instead of the traditional parade and redundant sprint on the Champs-Elysées. A final time is a first in thirty-five years, but not the only novelty of this 111th edition of the biggest cycling race in the world.
Because for the first time in its history, the Tour will start from Italy, from Florence, and the first gaps should be able to be widened from the start. Seven passes will be on the program for the 1st stage towards Rimini, while the punchers will be on display the next day, between Cesenatico and Bologna, over more than 200 kilometers. On the other side of the Alps, the Tour de France will make a few detours to pay tribute to cycling legends Gino Bartali, Marco Pantani and Fausto Coppi.
Suspense until the end
The peloton will then return to French roads via Turin and a quick first passage through the Alps. He will then head to Nuits-St-Georges for a first time trial, then to the center of the country, where the Massif Central will be an interesting playground.
At the end of the second week, the Pyrenees will be of great importance for the general classification, with arrivals at altitude at Pla d’Adet, then on the Plateau de Beille. Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic, Remoco Evenepoel and company will then have a few short days of respite in Provence, before taking on the Alps once more, further south this time, at Super Dévoluy, Barcelonnette, Isola 2000, then at the summit of the Col de la Couillole on the last Saturday, just before the final time trial in Nice. The suspense should therefore be there until the last meters of the race.
A Tour partly outside France for women
A few minutes before these gentlemen, it was the women’s peloton which had been served, for its Tour de France which will mainly be run… outside France. And it’s hearty, with a real kick of “Oranje”. The best cyclists in the world will fight for the yellow jersey from August 11 to 18, over 946.3 kilometers, and will be entitled to their first start abroad.
The first three stages will, in fact, take place on Dutch territory, via Rotterdam, The Hague and Dordrecht. The defending champion Demi Vollering and her competitors will then pass through Belgium and Liège, before also heading to the Alps, passing very close to the Swiss border on Saturday. The winner will be chosen at the top of Alpe d’Huez, following passing through the legendary… Dutch bend.
