Nearly 15 years following the accident that turned his life upside down, a stuntman paralyzed while playing the role of Harry Potter in the eponymous series alongside actor Daniel Radcliffe will return to the events in a documentary with his co-star.

Titled “David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived” in reference to one of the cult scenes from the last volume of the Harry Potter series, the documentary promises to tell the story of the young stuntman David Holmes, a “prodigious teenage gymnast” from Essex in England, who had been selected to play the understudy for Daniel Radcliffe, then aged 11, according to what “The Independent” reported on Wednesday.

Over a period of 10 years, the young actor and his understudy would have shared the role by developing an “inextricable bond”, until a “tragic accident on the set of the penultimate film left David paralyzed by a debilitating spinal injury, turning his world upside down,” reads an official summary of the documentary.

The documentary will also feature “candid footage shot over the past decade, behind-the-scenes footage of Holmes’ stunt work, scenes from his current life, and intimate interviews with David, Radcliffe, their friends, family, and former crew.” , would have specified HBO for its part, according to the British media.

Campaigning since 2020 for stuntmen to obtain their own recognition at the Oscars, the actor has, alongside his understudy, run the podcast “Cunning stunts” (“clever stunts” in French) since the same year, where the duo tries to raise awareness the population by demystifying the waterfalls.

“When audiences see something really painful or horrible, they think it’s a visual effect or there’s a smart, safe way to do it. Often this is not the case. There is no way to pretend, for example, to fall down the stairs,” the star previously insisted in the podcast.

The documentary will premiere on November 15.
