Guest on the CNEWS set, Alain Bauer, professor of criminology, returned to the war of communication of images within the conflict between Israel and Hamas. “The big victim in this affair is the truth,” he said.

An armed war, but also a war of communication of images. For Alain Bauer, professor of criminology and guest of CNEWS, the truth is “the great victim of this affair”.

“It has been since COVID and the self-destruction of my own colleagues who destroyed science. The political truth had disappeared, the journalistic truth was largely undermined, there remained a little scientific truth, it was liquidated during COVID. There is no more truth. We are always looking for information that confirms what we believe and not what is reality,” said Alain Bauer.

“There is a need now to show the images, including the most horrible, to say: ‘You know guys, this really happened.’ I remind you that the Nuremberg trials began with the opening films concentration shots so that everyone realized what it was in reality and at the time, we did not fake the images,” he later developed.

The war of images, a major issue

“Today, there is also the idea that every image is fake, that there is only deep fake. It’s a real challenge to hand over the images and therefore to hand over journalists,” said the criminology professor, referring to the challenges of technology.

“The tragedy of Israel and the drama of Hamas is to have prevented independent journalists, some by bombing them, others by denying them access, from doing their job. There is still a capacity for truth, the one that you carry here and others, which is to say “This is what is happening and we are talking regarding it because it is our job and we are independent””, concluded the CNEWS Morning guest.
