This look offers a natural, timeless and welcoming aesthetic – perfect for creating minimalist and unique projects.
They say that wood is the new little black dress: it goes with everything! In addition to being classic, it is versatile, practical, discreet and very sophisticated! As if all these qualities weren’t enough, this material also has the power to remove that pale atmosphere, which often hangs over neutral environments – scenes that may seduce the eyes, but hardly touch the heart. With the woody tones, there is no risk of falling into coldness. Warmth and welcome are your natural gifts. Its presence warms, comforts, involves, protects and, for all this, is widely desired in the most varied environments.
Considering that in recent years, contemporary architecture has embraced the mission of providing emotional comfort to the occupants of spaces, it is easy to understand why in events that are international references in design, such as the Milan Furniture Show, woody elements have become omnipresent, both in furniture and coverings.
In the same way, the success of wood in floors, walls and even ceilings is explained, as it was presented in the last edition of Casa Cor São Paulo and in other important decoration exhibitions across the country.
“Currently, the feeling of well-being brought by elements that refer to nature is an item that makes all the difference. And wood, as it is a natural material, is perfect for providing this effect”, explains architect Flávia Abaurre, from Vitória.
Flávia also adds: “This element brings warmth and exclusivity, as the designs on the surface are not repeated uniformly,” she said.
When you want to use a covering with a wooden appearance instead of the original raw material, the architect’s tip is to pay attention to the naturalness of the chosen product, which is related both to the pattern of the veins – marks of time printed on the tree trunks – as well as the texture and finish of the pieces.
“To avoid the feeling of a fake material – which negatively interferes with the results of projects, look for options without excess shine [acetinados ou foscos] and of medium tone, as seen in the tones of European or American oak”, advises Flávia.
In the Decortiles portfolio, the series that embodies this trend is Botânica, a collection of noble porcelain tiles that offers the genuine beauty of wood in three tones: Amber, Camel, Fendi and its matte finish. Available in 19.7×120 cm rulers or 60x120cm slabs, the pieces adapt to all types of projects, whether indoors or outdoors. The modern slatted look is also present in the Botânica series, in 19.7x120cm rulers and 60x120cm rectangular rulers, or even in 40x120cm pieces with edges, ideal for creating deck-like frames around swimming pools.
When we say that wood is present in everything, it is no exaggeration: not even ceilings escape this hype! The resource, which guarantees an extra dose of coziness in any space, quickly stood out in decoration displays for houses, apartments, restaurants and stores. “In our projects, we use wood for the ceiling when we have large spaces, with very comfortable ceilings. In these cases, in general, we favor natural wood louvers, as we believe that the movement of the slats gives the sensation that the ceiling is floating, bringing lightness to the interiors”, says architect Flávia Abaurre.
Of course, we are talking regarding porcelain tiles, which, unlike natural wood, are not afraid of water. Named Botânica Brise Âmbar, the product can be applied in wet areas and external installations, including on facades, without any height restrictions.
It seems that there really are no limits when it comes to woody ceramic coverings: they are simply everywhere! Lucky for us, we gained a little more warmth and well-being for the environments that shelter us.
