Urgent Fuel Crisis in Gaza: UNRWA Warns Operations at Risk, Israel Points Finger at Hamas

(Archyde.com, United Nations Headquarters, New York, 24th) The United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) warned that unless urgent fuel is delivered to the Gaza Strip, its local operations will have to stop tomorrow. In response, the Israeli military responded that the United Nations should ask Hamas for fuel supplies.

UNRWA posted on the social platform

After UNRWA raised the alarm on social media, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) retweeted the message and said that the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas’s tankers in Gaza contained more than 500,000 liters of fuel.

“Ask Hamas if you can share some (of the fuel),” the IDF wrote.

Since the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out on the 7th, aid supplies entered Gaza last weekend for the first time, but the supplies did not contain fuel because Israel was worried that the fuel would be intercepted by Hamas.

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari today accused Hamas of stealing oil from UNRWA, adding: “The oil does not enter Gaza. Hamas uses the oil for military infrastructure.”

U.S. National Security Council (NSC) spokesman John Kirby said today that Israel’s considerations are legitimate, but he added: “We still believe that, in general, fuel needs to be delivered to the people of Gaza. “Central News Agency (translation)
