While work began in the Ministry of Health to secure all necessary supplies and keep hospitals ready to confront any security developments related to the expansion of the war on the southern border, private hospitals, in turn, began preparing for the possibility of this scenario, stressing their readiness.
But this preparedness lacks a financial and human element, especially following it was announced that the number of emergency doctors in hospitals does not exceed forty doctors, up from nearly 400. Are all hospitals fully prepared? Or did the financial reality not help her do that?
In this context, the head of the Private Hospitals Syndicate, Suleiman Haroun, confirmed that “hospitals are preparing for war, but there is a large section that cannot prepare because it lacks the financial and human capabilities.”
In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Haroun said: “There are regarding 60 hospitals preparing for war, and there will be a network of hospitals in all Lebanese regions to receive the wounded.”
He pointed out that “the percentage of hospitals that are equipped today exceeds 50%,” noting that “until now, no assistance has arrived from the World Health Organization.”
He touched on a chronic problem, which is the loss of emergency doctors in hospitals, which will have a negative impact on hospitals in the event of war.
Also, on the border strip, a field hospital was established in the border town of Rmeish, to receive the wounded, and there is an effort to spread this matter in areas close to the fire lines, as confirmed by medical sources with support from the civil society in these areas.
