Crocheting and Knitting for a Cause: Handicrafts That Make a Difference

2023-10-24 20:29:00

Crocheting and knitting for a good cause: that is Monika Naumer’s purpose in life. The trained handicraft teacher has been doing this for more than 20 years.

And donates all proceeds from their sales to charity.

In the past ten years, 6,500 euros were raised, which she was able to donate to an assisted living facility in Überlingen.

Her granddaughter Valentina, who lives and works in a shared apartment, is also staying there, reports Monika Naumer.

This is not work, but relaxation

“Crocheting is not work for me, it helps me relax and at the same time I can do good with it,” explains Monika Naumer.

Even at 80 years old, this is still easy for her. And as long as her fingers keep up, she wants to continue making lots of handicrafts.

She mainly produces jackets, boots, hats and scarves for babies and toddlers on a continuous production line. Color matching current fashion or individually made to order.

But their Black Forest edition is completely new. From the wool hat with a Bollenhut attachment to matching gloves and scarves to color-coordinated accessories such as key rings, you can find everything you can crochet or knit here.

Sales through various village shops

However, buying wool and knitting accessories is becoming increasingly difficult because there will soon be no specialist shops that still offer such items.

The self-knitted items are then sold through various village shops in the region as well as through the fabric gallery on Villinger Färberstrasse.

Monika Naumer has also delivered to Christmas markets. However, there is an increasing lack of dealers who want to sell these goods free of charge for a good cause.

Naumer herself earns absolutely nothing from it; she also buys and donates the wool herself, not to mention her working hours, she tells the SÜDKURIER.

But now we are looking hopefully towards the best possible Christmas season, in which warm children’s clothing is often bought and given away. If there are individual handcrafted pieces whose proceeds are donated to a good cause, everyone is happy.
