Human Medicine students shared their experiences in research, highlighting its importance in medical training; and, Professor César Gutiérrez emphasized UDEP’s commitment to scientific research and dissemination.

On October 5, the scientific seminar was held: “Advances in research at the Faculty of Human Medicine” on the Lima campus of the University of Piura. The event was part of the activities scheduled for Medicine Week and brought together students, professors and academic authorities.
The seminar had the participation of two students, who shared their research experiences: Daniel Ramírez, Juan Diego Pichigua. In addition, Dr. César Gutiérrez, vice-dean director of Academic Organization of the Faculty of Human Medicine, participated.
Assistantship experiences and thesis formulation
Daniel Ramírez shared his experience as a research assistant. During his presentation, he highlighted the importance of research in the training of future doctors and emphasized: “Research is a great tool to generate questions, find answers and improve the quality of life of patients.” Ramírez encouraged other students to overcome fear and seek support from their advisors, stressing the importance of doing quality, ethical work.
For his part, Juan Diego Pichigua spoke regarding his experience in formulating thesis and participating in scientific events. He highlighted the importance of working as a team and how research can evolve from previous projects. He also shared his expectations for the future, including publishing his research in journals.
“The university gives us a lot of support; The thesis courses and others on research are of very good quality and it is demonstrated, because every time I went to a scientific event I have seen that my work is well done and on a very good path,” Pichigua highlighted.
Research at the Faculty of Human Medicine
At the time, Dr. César Gutiérrez offered an overview of the research strategy of the UDEP Faculty of Human Medicine. He highlighted the university’s commitment to training medical researchers and highlighted the students’ achievements in publishing their research in indexed journals.
In relation to the progress of the thesis projects, he reported that 17 thesis projects have been proposed, of which 7 have been approved and published in specialized journals. The rest of the projects are in various stages of execution and publication.
The doctor emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Ethics Committee, and also highlighted flexibility and creativity as fundamental aspects in the research process.
It should be noted that this scientific seminar highlighted the commitment of the Faculty of Human Medicine to the training of medical researchers and the promotion of research in the field of Medicine. In the words of student Daniel Ramírez, “We do not research just to have publications, but to do ethical and quality work that leaves a lasting impression and contributes to the academic advancement and improvement of our patients.”
The event also included the presentation of the research of teachers such as Stefany Infante. The seminar was a reminder that research and medicine are intertwined, and that students at the University of Piura are committed to excellence in both areas.
