I don’t know regarding you, but besides Lane Hutson, the Canadian prospect who isn’t playing in the NHL right now and who excites me the most is Joshua Roy.
His progress over the years has been meteoric. After dominating the QMJHL for two seasons, he is doing the same with the AHL, a much more competitive professional league. So far, in five games, he has 11 points. He is first in league scoring, three points behind his closest pursuer.
Being a fifth-round pick, the Quebecer was not always on the radars of other general managers, but clearly, he proved right a manager (Marc Bergevin), who gave him a chance. Roy is also one of the last choices of the old management.
As I mentioned, his progression is meteoric and is similar to that of a young Corey Perry, no less.
So far Roy’s production in the AHL is completely off the rails with 11 points in 5 games. I don’t imagine he’ll keep that up but there’s a guy who had a similar progression in his D-1 to D+2 and then went gangbusters in the AHL in his D+3… Corey Perry.
Wouldn’t that be… pic.twitter.com/tIlxVw1Qj8

Imagine if Roy might become a prime Corey Perry… Who would say no to that?
It’s true that the former Canadian has slowed down, but he is still very important in a hockey team. In his best years, he was simply one of the best players in the NHL.
In 2011, he won the Maurice Richard Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s top scorer, and the Hart, awarded to the most valuable player for his team. Roy might even become half of what Perry was and I would be satisfied.
As can be seen in the graph above, the odds of becoming a top NHL player are similar, almost identical. We observe this by comparing their progress before arriving in the NHL.
In the first thirds (zero to three), i.e. at the start of the two men’s junior camps, Roy (19%, 25% and 16%) and Perry (21%, 28% and 29%) maintained almost equal chances of winning. become star players in the big league.
In third four, the last, Perry increased his odds to 60%. The Canadian’s hopes are not there yet since he has only just arrived in the pros full-time, but with the start to the season he is having in the AHL, he might perhaps reach the bar 45-50%, at least.
In his NHL career, the former Ducks, Stars, Canadiens, Lightning and Blackhawks member collected 888 points in 1,263 games, while winning a few individual trophies and a Stanley Cup along the way.
He is a future member of the Hall of Fame and when we see the comparisons between his progress and that of Roy, we have reason to dream among Canadiens fans.
A lot of
– He is such an important defender right now.
Kovacevic quietly led all Habs skaters in even-strength ice time. He has developed into a highly dependable defensive defenceman. Harris was solid once more as well.
