On the occasion of International Polio Day, we take stock of this viral disease, which mainly affects children under the age of five. Very contagious, it is caused by the poliovirus which invades the nervous system and can, in just a few hours, cause irreversible paralysis.
Since the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, and in particular thanks to vaccination, the number of polio cases has fallen by 99% worldwide. How to eradicate the disease? Where is vaccination in the world? How do we live with polio?
