More than 100,000 people live in Bamingui-Bangora. Most of the land communications routes serving this region close to Sudan and Chad are impassable. Armed men take advantage of this deterioration to regularly commit crimes and attack the rare trucks that attempt to venture there. A real ordeal for economic operators.

As soon as Freddy accelerates, the truck moves and the trouble begins. On this type of devastated road, poor handling of the handlebars is unforgiving, the mistake is fatal. Driving on this road presents all dangers. Traffic thus becomes risky because of the erosion visible almost everywhere. As a result, trucks and public transport vehicles rarely use this section.
In his truck, Freddy carries bags of cassava, peanuts, sesame and corn. “ It is a handicap for the economic operators that we are, he laments. When it rains like this, the situation becomes worse. There are big holes and ponds are everywhere. The government must help us rebuild this road. If economic activities go wrong, people will starve. »
These roads which serve the town of Ndélé give a difficult time to the trucks and public transport vehicles which pass by there. Allassane, a trader goes to the Ndélé weekly market to sell his goods. But the truck he is in is stuck in the mud and finds himself without help: “ I know the truck will spend a month here without help. I no longer know which way to turn. On the way, we had passed around ten trucks which had accidents, some of which were fatal. Traders lost their goods. Really, it’s hell here. »
Strengthen security
To reach the town of Ndélé today, motorcycle taxis make detours in the bush and sometimes cross areas where security is volatile. Traders are regularly robbed of their goods and sums of money. Around ten of them were killed last September by road cutters.
The prefect of Ndélé recognizes this problem and calls on the government to strengthen security in his prefecture: “ We never stop asking Minusca peacekeepers to increase patrols in the area to protect economic operators from bandits. On the government side, we are asking that the strength of the Central African armed forces be reinforced in the area. The Faca also need logistical means to ensure the security of our prefecture up to the border. »
Today, the price of goods and foodstuffs has almost doubled according to the findings of the Ndélé traders’ delegate. A hard blow for the inhabitants of this locality who live on less than 1 euro per day.
