Mayor Andreas Rabl and Deputy Mayor Christa Raggl-Mühlberger (both FP) condemned the action: “It is shocking that some people – obviously for ideological or political reasons – do not stop at damaging property.” According to the city, an anti-fascist background is suspected.

The statue is controversial because replicas were awarded to personalities of the regime as an “honorary award of the city” during the Nazi era. The SP and the Greens have repeatedly called for the removal of the replica, which has been in the pedestrian zone since 2021.
