Alan Wake, the first of its name, is a third-person action game mixed with horror components, while le second opus is a real survival horror. The game from the Finnish studio should be a feast for the eyes with awesome graphics. However, Remedy has just revealed the list of recommended configurationsand the game seems playable on a fairly limited range of machines.

Alan Wake 2 is therefore optimized (without ray-tracing) at 30fps 1080p, the equivalent of performance on Xbox Series S, for PCs equipped with a RTX 2060, one of the first DirectX 12 Ultimate compatible GPUs (but currently no longer in production). However, for GPUs not supporting the technology of Mesh Shader, no compatibility planned.

As a reminder, the Mesh Shading is an adaptive technology that allows you to increase or decrease the rate of triangles of an object depending on its importance on the screen. This technology makes it possible to relieve the CPUs a little by not unnecessarily displaying items that might slow it down significantly.

We can therefore say goodbye to GTX Series 10 and to RX 5000an astonishing decision on the part of Remedy which therefore prefers to abandon almost 50% des GPU which the players are equipped with. In any case, this is what the Steam statistics of rapport from September 2023 on user hardware of the platform.

Consoles first, PC if possible

According to the communications director Thomas the WayRemedy would have favored the optimization ofAlan Wake 2 on home consoles (versions which will benefit from a performance mode). It is therefore a risky bet but not surprising on the part of the game developers who have preferred the console experience living room rather than that of PCs.

“As a console gamer, I’m very happy with the state of Alan Wake on home consoles. We focused on these throughout the development of the game to ensure that it might run smoothly and deliver incredible graphics. […] we have enough staff to provide as good PC performance as possible.”

Words from Thomas Puta which can raise questions but it is true that Alan Wake 2 actually looks sublime on PS5. On the other hand, if the game can run on RTX 2060we will have to wait to see how it will behave in real conditions to know if development decisions you studio are justified.
