A fake news designates deliberately false information disseminated with the aim of instilling doubt, even on historically and scientifically proven facts, of polarizing public debate, of manipulating public opinion and of destabilizing an institution, a State or a democratic process.

This false information, which affects even the most educated people, was not born with social networks, but the latter has allowed it to reach an unprecedented scale. To the point of quantitatively taking precedence over factual and verified information on social platforms.
