Olympic fencing gold medalist Nam Hyun-hee (42) is marrying businessman Jeon Cheong-jo, who is 15 years her junior. Nam Hyun-hee, who divorced her ex-husband last August, is raising her 11-year-old daughter alone.
On the 23rd, Nam Hyun-hee and Jeon Cheong-jo announced their marriage through a joint interview with Women’s Chosun, saying, “The first thing that comes to mind is that we may be criticized for the age difference, economic difference, etc.”, but also added, “Jeon Cheong-jo is very polite and wise. They revealed their relationship, saying, “Because they are so close, I don’t feel any age difference between them.”
Nam Hyun-hee’s remarried partner, Jeon Cheong-jo, majored in horseback riding in New York and currently runs an arts, physical education, psychology and etiquette education center for children in Korea. Although there is not much information regarding Jeon Cheong-jo in Korea, Women’s Chosun said, “I am engaged in arts and physical education and IT businesses both domestically and internationally, and have also served as an executive at a famous global IT company.”
Nam Hyun-hee and Jeon Cheong-jo first met through business work. Jeon Cheong-jo suggested, “I want to start a fencing-related business. Are you willing to join us?” and now we are running the business together. Jeon Cheong-jo confessed that he fell in love with Nam Hyeon-hee at first sight when he saw her, but that he gave up his heart when he found out that she was married and had a child.
Last August, Nam Hyun-hee announced on social media that she had a new lover along with the news of her divorce. Nam Hyun-hee said regarding her new lover, “She is a person who gives true and blind love.”
In an interview, Jeon Cheong-jo cited bodyguards as the main reason the two fight, saying, “It’s very natural for me to spend my daily life with bodyguards, but Hyunhee says it’s uncomfortable. After a big fight over the issue, they reduced the number of bodyguards and changed their attire from formal to casual. “I changed my clothes,” he said.
As she prepares to get married, Nam Hyun-hee’s daughter Hai is accepting the changes. Regarding her plans for the second generation, Jeon Cheong-jo said, “I would be very grateful if I might have a child with the person I love, but there is no problem if I don’t have a child. Because I have a daughter named Hai.”
Meanwhile, Nam Hyun-hee married Gong Hyo-seok, a former national cycling team member, in 2011 and has a daughter. The two went their separate ways last August, following 12 years of marriage.
