Comedian and Corona skeptic Marco Rima wanted to enter the Council of States for the canton of Zug. The musical and TV star gets 3,941 votes. He ends up in fourth place by a long way behind the previous members of the Center and FDP and their SVP challengers.

Nine candidates wanted to win one of Zug’s two Council of States seats. Anyone who wanted to do that in the first attempt had to get 19,377 votes on Sunday.

Two candidates succeeded in this. For Marco Rima (independent), however, his foray into politics ends abruptly: the comedian doesn’t even get 4,000 votes. Specifically, he gets 3941 votes.

The comedian has not yet commented on his performance on his social media accounts.

What is certain, however, is that Rima followed the election Sunday abroad: He appeared at a satirical event in Rosenheim, Germany. Rima said he had already agreed to this appearance around a year ago in the run-up to the elections Central plus: “If I have given my word for something, then I will keep it.” He only made the decision to run for the Council of States in the spring.

Previous re-elected

As expected, the two previous Councilors Peter Hegglin (center, 23,077 votes) and Matthias Michel (FDP, 22,673 votes) were re-elected. Four years ago, Michel had to go into the runoff election, and challenger Heinz Tännler from the SVP was hot on his heels following the first round of voting.

The SVP also ran this year, but its candidate – SVP cantonal president Thomas Werner – had no chance and ended up in third place with 9,939 votes. The re-elected National Councilor Manuela Weichelt also left empty-handed. She received 9,123 votes.

GLP newcomer Kim Weber made 5202 votes. Stefan Thöni from the Zug small party for Rational Politics General Human Rights and Participation (Parat) got 1492 votes, Adi Hadodo (Aufrecht) 1029 votes, René Zimmermann, also Aufrecht – scored 1025 votes.

Voter turnout in the Council of States elections was 54.75 percent.
