Egyptian Doctors Volunteer to Treat Injured in Gaza Strip Amid Health Crisis

More than 800 Egyptian doctors came forward to volunteer and help treat those injured in the Gaza Strip, as a result of the ongoing Israeli bombing for two weeks, coinciding with the major collapse in the health sector in the Strip, and international appeals to bring medical supplies in a sustainable manner, and to stop targeting medical facilities and staff.

An official at the Egyptian Medical Syndicate revealed, in an exclusive interview with Sky News Arabia, that there are thousands of Egyptian doctors willing to support and assist in treating the injured in Gaza, whether from within Egyptian hospitals where the state of emergency has been lifted since the beginning of the conflict, or if approval is given to admit medical teams. To the sector that is suffering from a massive humanitarian crisis, however, a number of criteria have been established to select these doctors, the most important of which is selecting those with the required specializations such as microsurgery and emergencies.

The Assistant Secretary-General of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, Khaled Amin, said in statements to Sky News Arabia that requests from 870 doctors were received who wished to volunteer to treat the injured in Gaza, in various specific specialties, including: emergency, and specialized surgeries such as orthopedics, brain, nerves, heart and chest surgery. , as well as vascular, anesthesia and intensive care.

Amin outlined the next steps for these doctors, saying:

The first batch of these doctors will be trained, in the presence of 40 doctors who wish to volunteer within the Egyptian Red Crescent, on how to deal with emergency situations, especially in times of conflict. The training will be on dealing with the types of injuries that occur in wars and military operations, provided that these doctors remain in a state of readiness to cover any need for medical support in Egyptian hospitals, whether in the governorates of the Suez Canal, North Sinai, or the field hospital in Rafah, as well as if crews are allowed to enter. medical personnel to the Gaza Strip to help their colleagues there. Priority for selecting doctors is given to those who have experience in dealing with such situations of war, conflict, or humanitarian disaster, in addition to having the necessary papers for travel in accordance with what the Egyptian official authorities require. Opening the door for donations to all bank accounts of the “Egypt Giving” Committee of the Medical Syndicate, for the benefit of the Palestinian people. There is constant communication with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the Egyptian Red Crescent. How are Egyptian hospitals preparing?

He stressed the readiness of hospitals with manpower in all specialties, and coordination with university hospitals in the event of need for support from medical staff, while deploying a number of mobile clinics to deal with some medical cases, and reducing pressure on referral hospitals.

The Egyptian plan also includes raising the level of readiness of the Egyptian ambulance system to deal with any developments.
