The company encourages its customers to continue to consult its flight information and announcements regarding departures beyond December 31.
Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific announced on Sunday that it was canceling all its flights between the city and Tel Aviv until the end of the year, due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
“Given the current situation in Israel, all Cathay Pacific flights between Hong Kong and Tel Aviv from today until December 31, 2023 inclusive will be canceled,” the company said in a statement published on its website.
It also asked its customers to continue to check its flight information and announcements for updates regarding departures beyond December 31.
More than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, were killed in Israel following the Hamas attack on October 7, according to Israeli authorities. Israel responded with incessant bombings on the Gaza Strip that killed more than 4,300 Palestinians, mainly civilians, according to the Palestinian Islamist movement’s health ministry.
Tens of thousands of Israeli troops are massing around Gaza in preparation for a ground invasion they say will take place soon.
A series of flight cancellations to Tel Aviv
Cathay Pacific is the latest in a series of airlines to halt flights to Israel due to the conflict. Last week, the American Delta announced that it was canceling all its flights to the country and that it was seeking “safe alternatives” for its customers traveling to Tel Aviv.
American Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates and Ryanair also suspended flights to Tel Aviv last weekend. The Israeli airline El Al has announced that it will maintain its flights to Tel Aviv for the moment, although some flights operated by foreign partners have been canceled.
El Al added that it was operating “in accordance with instructions from Israeli security forces” and that flights departed only from Terminal 3 of Ben Gurion Airport.
