In the small village of Casaluna, time seems to pass without having any effect. And yet, like everywhere, San Lorenzo is not spared from the frenetic passing of seconds, days and years. Eras pass, change, and leave in their wake nostalgia and the memory of moments and faces plastered on the albumen paper of old photographs.

Inside dusty trunks forgotten in attics and cellars, in the creaking drawers of a few cupboards, chests of drawers and silent desks, these testimonies of yesterday’s life patiently wait to see the light of day once more thanks to a family dinner or any other annual visit. Until the day when, weighed down by the layers of dust of inevitable oblivion, they will no longer tell stories to anyone. Who ? Or ? When ?

So many questions to which the answers will become more and more imprecise and rare over the generations.

Downloadable memory

And like everywhere, in San Lorenzo, the desire to remember prevails. But how can we maintain this collective memory and above all keep it alive as long as possible? To this universal question, Mayor Jérôme Negroni provided a contemporary answer: a website dedicated to the photographic memory of his village. “For six months, we collected the photographs that residents were kind enough to lend us to digitize and put them onlinehe explains.

As a result, nearly 600 photos were shared and retrace daily life in the twelve hamlets of the village. “The oldest dates from the end of the 18th century. The most recent from 2010, specifies Jérôme Negroni. The goal was to broaden the spectrum to leave a memorial legacy for future generations. “The digital medium, in addition to facilitating the exhibition of photos, allows them to last over timehe emphasizes, hoping that the rule also applies to photos taken today “because we take them with our smartphones but once we change them, they are lost”.

Presented in the village school a few days ago in front of around forty people, the website provides information on each photo, thanks to the work accomplished by Norma. The young girl carried out her civic service in the heart of the village for six months. It has entered the memory of its inhabitants so that each photograph tells a story. She left her mark there. “Thank you for welcoming me and for sharing so many things. It was great to delve with you into the memory of the villageshe breathes before letting out a light sob.

Next step ? “A work and long-term exhibitions in all the hamletsconfides the mayor.
