IMPACT Wrestling revealed at the end of the broadcasts IMPACT Bound For Glory 2023 that starting next year it will be called once more TNA Wrestling and its first PPV under the new name will be Hard To Kill 2024.
After the fight that Alex Shelley defeated Josh Alexander to retain the IMPACT World Championship In the main event of the night, the company showed a video with the faces of the company, the company’s leaders such as Eddie Edwards, Frankie Kazarian, Motor City Machine Guns, Jordynne Grace, Eric Young, Alisha, Josh Alexander, among others .
These fighters met in a lake in the middle of a forest and Kazarian dove into the water to remove the wooden box that contained the letters TNA on its front. He opened it and let out all the memories of the company to present the new name on a plaque.
“The company’s directors confirmed that the new year will launch a new image of TNA Wrestling that will range from the entrance ramp to the ring turnbuckles, passing through larger and more prestigious venues and much, much more,” Impact Wrestling wrote in its press release. “More details regarding the return of TNA Wrestling will be revealed on Tuesday, October 24, when D’Amore sits down for an exclusive interview with Tom Hannifan that will air on live on the IMPACT Facebook page, starting at 12 noon EST. The interview will include questions from media outlets around the world.”
“We continue to hear ‘TNA’ chants wherever we go”said IMPACT Wrestling president Scott D’Amore in the ring with the stars. “Fans have been craving TNA Wrestling, so that’s what we’re bringing back in 2024: TNA Wrestling, we’re back!”
TNA was founded in 2002 by Jeff Jarrett along with his father, Jerry Jarrett. Initially, the promotion was called “NWA-TNA” because it had an affiliation with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), being a very small company with independent talent, but it remained despite strong competition and until 2017 it maintained the acronym that it carried during the years of its history, which included figures such as AJ Styles, the first champion in history; Jay Lethal, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Petey Williams, among others.
Over the years, TNA experienced significant growth and signed national television deals, allowing it to expand its audience. TNA established itself as an alternative to WWE, offering a different style of wrestling and highlighting many talented wrestlers who had worked in other promotions. In fact, there was an attempt to have their flagship show “Impact Wrestling” compete on Mondays with Monday Night Raw.
Under the old name, the women’s revolution in wrestling also began, with the Knockouts, who showed that women’s wrestling was on par with men’s wrestling and made history: Gail Kim, Awesome Kong, The Beautiful People, Taya Valkyrie, ODB, Tara, Traci Brooks and many others.
