Apple is working on a HomePod whose upper part would include a small LCD screen capable of displaying information.
Originally, it was the prototype collector, Kosutami, who published photos of second-generation HomePod parts on X, one of which is quite different from the current models. The one designed to accommodate the screen. Another shot followed, this time of a HomePod, with this screen running and displaying an app for testing its operation “LcdUTest”.

Sources of 9to5Mac ont asserted that it was indeed a HomePod currently in development – registered B720 – and not an old prototype for which Apple had not followed up.
The site points out that Apple has revised certain tvOS apps – which serves as the basis for the HomePod system – so that they can operate in display ratios other than those of televisions. Apple Music and Podcasts would be the first capable of using this reduced size display.
Other details collected, when listening to content, the screen would display colors depending on the tones of the album cover or the podcast being played. It might also show urgent notifications that require action, like taking a call or replying to a message.
