Western countries’ fear of Russia is absurd. She would not start a war with any NATO representative. This was announced by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.

“We have no threat. This fear of the Russians coming is absurd. How are they going to defeat NATO, let alone occupy Western Europe?” — a German newspaper reports Schröder’s words Berliner Zeitung. The former German chancellor added that the Baltic countries, Poland, Germany and all NATO members should not believe that they are in danger. According to him, Russia would not start a war with a NATO member country.

Schröder suggested “combining support for Ukraine with an offer to talk with Russia.” In his opinion, arms supplies are not a long-term solution. The former German chancellor said that regardless of who is in power, in the Russian Federation “there is a conviction that the West wants to continue expanding together with NATO.” In particular, expansion will take place in the post-Soviet space. According to Schröder, Western countries must understand this and make compromises. Otherwise it will be difficult to achieve peace.

Gerhard Schröder previously reported that the United States Ukraine was not allowed to make peace with Russia during the 2022 talks in Istanbul. According to the former German Chancellor, he did not expect any results from the negotiation process, since American politicians did not want the conflict between Ukraine and Russia to end.
