Les Aquarelles is the name of a welcoming institution in Hertain, near Tournai. It opened its doors on October 1. It accommodates around thirty residents, adults requiring medical care and monitoring. But it operates without authorization, Sudpresse announced this Friday morning.
We know the border area with France and Picardy Wallonia is particularly rich in reception structures for elderly or disabled people. But in the case of Aquarelles, the Walloon Agency for Quality Life has received a request to operate a collective home for people in prolonged difficulties. But this request was incomplete and therefore inadmissible. Aviq plans to carry out an on-site inspection very soon.
Not enough staff
The Sudpresse journalist explains that there were few staff during his visit. Employees contacted the CSC of Western Hainaut, which points out “working conditions that raise questions for the safety of workers and residents“. The union also denounces “pirate houses, a business carried out on the backs of the most fragile“.
“They are people without faith or law.”explains Sylvie Pottiez, permanent secretary at the CNE. “But inside these structures, there are people. A cleaning technician found herself alone with 40 people who require high-level personnel, it’s dangerous for everyone“.
An action is planned this Friday morning in front of the establishment in Hertain.
