Lewis Hamilton took 3rd place on the grid in qualifying for the 2023 F1 Round 19 American Grand Prix. He says he feels Mercedes F1 has taken another step forward with the major new floor upgrades it introduced to the W14 this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. Hamilton set the third-fastest time in just one practice session and repeated that performance in qualifying to secure a second-row start for Sunday’s Grand Prix.

McLaren’s Lando Norris will be on the front row, with a difference of just 0.139 seconds from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who took pole position. It was a close race in qualifying, with just 0.744 seconds separating the top ten, but Hamilton admitted the freshly improved Mercedes was not yet in contention for the lead. “I’m really grateful to everyone at the factory. They pushed hard to improve the car and this weekend we were able to move one step closer to the front. Everyone gave their all to make that happen. I know they are there and I appreciate their efforts,” Lewis Hamilton said. “Unfortunately, I mightn’t make it to the top today, but I’ll try harder tomorrow.” “I love being in America! It’s such a beautiful country and this circuit is really amazing. It’s definitely one of my favorites.” “It’s a legendary layout, it’s bumpy and every driver feels it’s very tricky. Every section is a great challenge. “I hope to fight for first place once more tomorrow. I’ll do my best and with this crowd. I think anything is possible if you have them.” 2023 F1 United States Grand Prix Qualifying Results 1. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) 2. Lando Norris (McLaren) 3. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) 4.
