“These are problems that have been on the agenda for a long time,” anticipates Pierre-Yves Jeholet, who rejects all accusations of political exploitation. “The MR has made security and justice a priority. The day following the attack perpetrated by Abdesalem Lassoued, the MR demanded a series of measures including that of implementing the immediate expulsion of those radicalized. This firmness involves a strengthening of the compulsory integration process, put in place in 2004 in Flanders, in 2016 in Wallonia and “only in 2022 in Brussels, where the problem was most acute”.
The integration of newcomers involves teaching “citizenship, rules, rights, but also duties, legislation and learning French”. “I am not forcing anyone to live in Belgium if they do not share its rules, its rights and its customs. On the question of neutrality, Minister Jeholet considers that a very clear separation is necessary. “When we go to Arab countries, we don’t do what we want, we don’t dress the way we want.
