The United Nations and Arab and Muslim countries have stepped up diplomacy for an immediate ceasefire and unconditional delivery of goods to Gaza. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who arrived in Egypt, demanded permission to deliver unconditional aid to Gaza. The UN Secretary General warned the countries of the world that it is a critical step to transfer maximum aid to Gaza. Guterres also said that without an immediate ceasefire in effect, it would be impossible for UN agencies to deliver aid. The GCC-ASEAN Summit, which started in Riyadh, also suggested that there should be an immediate ceasefire and that there should be immediate action to deliver aid. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also asked not to delay aid to Gaza. Rishi Sunak assured the Saudi and Qatari leaders that possible pressure would be put on Israel.
The World Health Organization and UN agencies have called for stronger action from the international community to save Gaza from a humanitarian disaster. Israel’s move to evacuate tens of thousands of people from the Lebanese border is fueling fears of a new war front. The United States has also increased security measures in the Middle East. The U.S. Central Command stated that the recent rocket attack targeting military camps in Iraq and Syria has prompted increased security. The US State Department has also warned that the response will be harsh if the current situation is exploited. More countries, including Norway, declared their support for Palestine. European countries may also reconsider their position as the fear that the entire region will turn into war if Israel’s brutality is not stopped.
