The government’s Rappel Conso site warns regarding this coffee sold by E.Leclerc which might contain toxic substances produced by mushrooms.

If you have made yourself a cup of Pure Arabica Brazil coffee from the Repère Plantation brand by E.Leclerc, it is best to throw it away immediately (and wash the cup well).

The product is in fact the subject of a national recall, relayed on the government website Rappel Conso. The product may contain mycotoxins of the ochratoxin A type, substances produced by fungi (mold) which sometimes develop on plant products and cause a health risk in the event of large and repeated consumption.

Lots sold between August 25 and October 18

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the tolerable weekly intake (TWI) for this mycotoxin is 120ng per kg of body weight, or 0.0084mg per week for a person weighing 70kg. Currently, the weekly exposure of the general population varies between 15 and 60ng per kg of body weight according to the EASA.

The batches affected by the recall are 250g sachets, sold between August 25 and October 18 of this year.

“Only products bearing the additional code 04 following the barcode and the combination of markings framed in red are affected by the recall,” specifies the government site.

The product must no longer be consumed and must be returned to the point of sale where it will be refunded.
