On Thursday different organizations organized the festival in defense of public education in Roca with the aim of make visible its importance and the role it plays in social mobility, in the inclusion and appreciation of diversity.
The organization was carried out by the Roundtable in Defense of Public Educationmade up of various organizations in our community, from educational institutions, unions, student centers, student groups, national, provincial and municipal organizations.
All these institutions made their contribution to carry out this activity yesterday at the Canalito amphitheater. They were present from National University of Rio Negro (UNRN), the National University of Comahue (UNCo), IUPA, Institute of Continuing Teacher Training (IFDC) and schools.
The objective of the festival was «demonstrate the appreciation of public policies that are reflected through the support of Free Public Education with unrestricted access«, they pointed out.
The organizers thanked the participation in a way that made visible «“the importance of public education as one of the fundamental pillars of social mobility, inclusion and appreciation of diversity”, they said and added: “to guarantee the access of the sons and daughters of the working classes to knowledge and highly qualified work.”
«In a context in which free, quality public education at all educational levels is being discussed by some political sectors that seek to install a logic of commercialization on the educational system and scientist, we decided to celebrate it. Celebrate the possibilities of access to knowledge, science, art, and technology that it offers us,” they indicated. 4
They highlighted the role of public education, its legitimation and its importance in the lives of the members of the community, has been achieved from a historical and social process “that is also ours.”

In addition, they highlighted that in Roca there are hundreds of students, teachers and non-teaching workers of all levels. They also remembered that The town has three national universities and a Teacher Training Institute.
«We must keep in mind that public education is the foundation of a society that aims to be fair and developed, which is why We have the responsibility to ensure that it is guaranteed by the State«, they said.
«We firmly believe that in the face of hate speech, which seeks to take away rights acquired by the working class, which seeks to blur the importance of the role of the State in the educational and social development of people, We must take ownership of the preponderant role that access, permanence and graduation have in public education for the professional, scientific, economic and social development of our cities.«, they expressed.
Finally, from the Roundtable in Defense of Public Education they invited the community to reflect and ask themselves: What has public education done for each of us, for our families, for our cities?.
And from individual and/or collective action: How do we ensure a future in which each of the members of our society can access to free, quality public education?, they concluded.
