The Rise of Guillaume Restes: Toulouse’s Young Goalkeeper Dominates Ligue 1

2023-10-20 11:58:10

At just 18 years old, Guillaume Restes has established himself in the Toulouse goal since the start of the season. He started all 10 matches played by the Violets in all competitions. Two days before the reception in Reims, the native of the Saint-Agne district came before the media for the first time. Selected pieces.

The day he knows he will be number 1

It was a goal. I didn’t necessarily expect it. The preparation is going well but it was not in the plans. The president said that Kjetil Haug should start but I had the chance to play the friendly matches. There was in particular the match once morest Osasuna where the coach made me understand that I might play once morest Roma. The match went well and I knew it was me who was going to start the season.

Change of world

It was a childhood dream. I took it with great pleasure and desire. There are just more spectators at the match. For me, my life has not changed. People recognize me a little in the street but not more than that. I can still do what I did last year in N3.

The first match at the Stadium

I was excited, in the room with Christian (Mawissa). That’s all I was talking regarding. There was my family, my former coaches from the training center. There was no more pressure than that even if it was the first time that I really set foot on this field. The fans chanted my name, it was just fun.

The first in Ligue 1 in Nantes

I was excited before the match. I spoke with Alban during the lawn reconnaissance. He told me it was going to be okay. When I was little I wanted to become like Alban. I asked him if he remembered me, he told me he had memories of me. Little anecdotes like that.

And TFC

I was five years old when I saw my first match at the Stadium. I was on a balcony. I told myself that I wanted to become a professional footballer and play for TFC. I started in Montaudran then I came. You want to succeed even more when you are in the club of your heart. You’re a Pitchoun and you want to succeed at TFC. I’ve been here since I was six years old. I did everything to get there, we must continue. I always wanted to wear this jersey at the Stadium. I want to join the club for the long term. Stay as long as possible and leave my mark here at TFC.

The France Espoirs team

I am very happy that Thierry Henry says nice words regarding me and that he gives me the armband for a little time. It’s Warren the captain, but it’s nice and I hope there will be others. The Olympic Games are of course in the back of my mind but I am not obsessed with them.

Maturity at 18

It’s natural, not forced at all. I don’t worry before matches. I try to be as calm as possible, to give my partners confidence and to be decisive. That’s what drives me during matches.

A leader’s soul?

I let the leaders speak. I might do it but I try to stay in my place. I just give my instructions on the ground. I have no problem speaking but there are leaders like Vincent, Gabi or Rasmus. There is no need for me to do this.
