Troubled times for world champion Lukas Podolski (38) in Poland.

He has been playing for his hometown club, Górnik Zabrze, in the Polish first division since summer 2021. But things aren’t going according to plan there at the moment – and not just in terms of sport.

Reason: The club has major financial problems. According to BILD information, Podolski and his teammates are waiting for their last two player salaries. The Polish newspaper “Przegląd Sportowy” first reported.

The reason is said to be important, missing transfer income. According to the newspaper, around 1.7 million euros will be transferred to the Poldi club by the end of October for the sale of Szymon Włodarczyk (20) to Ösi-Klub Sturm Graz in July.

In addition, Zabzre is said to have not yet received the full transfer fee for the sale of Krzysztof Kubica (23) to Italy’s third division club Benevento Calcio. The installment payment should be delayed.

The coal is urgently needed to fill the coffers once more.

By the way: It’s not the first time that the Poldi club is in need of money. The club was already struggling with a similar financial situation in the spring. According to reports, the DFB star Zabzre even offered to loan 200,000 euros at the time. However, the first division club rejected this.

Things aren’t going well for Zabzre in terms of sport either. In the Polish league they are currently only in 14th place following eleven games.

Podolski & Co. have been waiting for a win for three games.
