Kerala Emerges as a Premier Study Destination for International Students: Highlights from the Foreign Students’ Conference at Kanakakunn

Thursday Oct 19, 2023 The Chief Minister inaugurates the foreign students’ conference held at Kanakakunn.

Thiruvananthapuram > Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Kerala has become one of the main study centers chosen by international students. The Chief Minister was speaking while inaugurating the international students’ meet held at Kanakakunn Palace Hall ahead of the Keraliya held in Thiruvananthapuram from November 1 to 7 with a display of Kerala’s achievements. 162 foreign students from 41 countries studying in departments and colleges under Kerala University participated in the meeting. The Chief Minister said that facilities including a 43,500 square feet hostel complex are being prepared for the international students coming for higher studies in Kerala. Kerala is also attracting students from other states of India. 450 students from more than 40 countries are studying in Kerala campuses. It is also a testimony to the fact that pluralism and diverse culture are part of Kerala. We are in the process of transforming Kerala into a knowledge economy and an innovative society. The Chief Minister said that Kerala is being built anew to realize Nava Keralam. The Chief Minister also presented snow food to the foreign students on the occasion. The Minister of Higher Education Dr. Dr. R. Bindu said that efforts are being made to make Kerala a hub of world-class higher education. Finance Minister KN Balagopal delivered the keynote address. Education Minister V Sivankutty, Mayor Arya Rajendran, MLAs CK Harindran, IB Satish, District Panchayat President D Sureshkumar, Media Academy Chairman RS Babu, Keralayam Swagata Sangam Convenor S Harikishore, IPRD Director TV Subhash, University of Kerala Registrar Dr. KS Anilkumar also participated in the program. After that, art performances by foreign students were also staged at Kanakakunn Palace Hall. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Chad, Colombia, Comoros, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Palestine, 162 students from 41 countries like Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Gambia, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia and Zimbabwe participated in the meeting. They are studying undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses in various departments of the University of Kerala. Out of this, 28 students are undergraduate and 62 are postgraduate students.
