According to him, production of the 2nd generation AirTag has been postponed to 2025, by regarding a year. This means that it should only be launched from 2025 onwards.

Unfortunately, Kuo does not mention the reason for this change, but it is likely that Apple needs more time to improve the device’s development and manufacturing.

It is also likely that Apple will want to include a new generation ultra-wideband chip similar to the one found in the iPhone 15 to allow the new AirTag to be tracked with greater accuracy, as reports indicate that it will have tight integration with the Apple Vision Pro and future generations of smart glasses with a 3D map mode.

2nd generation AirTags might arrive in 2025 bringing integration with Vision Pro and 3D map mode

The source does not cite the reason for this supposed delay, but an extra year would give Apple a longer period of time to improve the accessory.

According to speculation, the 2nd generation AirTag will have Full integration with the Vision Pro mixed reality (MR) headseta device announced by the Cupertino giant during WWDC 2023. It is also expected that the manufacturer will implement the 3D Precision Finding function in the locator, allowing any iPhone with UWB to communicate with the device.

3D Precision Finding can allow a kind of mini-map to be displayed on the cell phone showing whether the tracker is present on a floor above them, below them or is somewhere underground, for example.

2nd generation Apple AirTags may integrate with Vision Pro and go into production in 2024

Apple appears to be preparing to launch a second generation of AirTags, its tracking devices that have already caused controversy in cases of stalking, although their purpose is to help find lost objects. The information was revealed this Wednesday (02) by famous leaker Ming-Chi Kuo.

According to the informant, the new generation of AirTags will begin to be mass produced in the last quarter of 2024. The trackers should receive improvements that will allow them to expand their usability. One possibility mentioned is the integration of accessories with a new spatial computing ecosystem — referring to the Apple Vision Pro.

The 1st generation AirTags, released in 2021, feature Apple’s U1 chip, which enables their precise location feature and shows the virtually exact distance to a compatible iPhone model. It is possible that the next line of trackers will be updated with the U2, a supposed ultra-wideband chip that should be introduced with the iPhone 15.

With a new chip, the trackers’ capabilities might go far beyond simply finding lost objects, especially considering the high expectations for Apple’s first mixed reality headset, but leakers still don’t have much information regarding the capabilities of the next-generation AirTag. .

Considering that the 2nd generation AirTags are not expected to arrive before the end of 2024, there are still many prominent products that the manufacturer should introduce in this range, such as desktops and notebooks equipped with the Apple M3, its first processor with 3 nanometer lithography, which can guarantee an excellent leap in performance and efficiency.

The 1st generation AirTag is available at Apple’s official store with a suggested price of R$369. A pack of four units costs R$1,249.
