1932-2023. The famous French-Canadian astrophysicist Hubert Reeves died Friday October 13, 2023, at the age of 91, in Paris. His funeral will be held there next Wednesday, the 25th, it was announced by his entourage.

A “masterful storyteller of the history of the Universe”

A public ceremony is planned at Pere Lachaise Cemetery (20th) that same day, at 1:30 p.m., one of his sons, Benoît, indicated on Facebook, asking not to provide flowers or wreaths.

Born in Montreal, who became an advisor to NASA in New York, the astrophysicist moved to Europe in the mid-1960s, before being appointed research director at the CNRS. Known as a “masterful storyteller of the history of the Universe”, he was famous around the world for his popularization work on the cosmos. His quote “To look far is to look early”, to evoke space-time, is an illustration of this.

The scientist who looked like a Gallic druid was also an ardent defender of the planet. Becoming president of the Humanity and Biodiversity association in 2001, he has continued to warn once morest the massacre of species and global warming, and to challenge politicians.
