FAG Future Fund must be divided according to vertical distribution and tasks of the cities

Vienna (OTS/RK) Association of Cities President Michael Ludwig said on the occasion of Finance Minister Magnus Brunner’s budget speech yesterday: “Cities and municipalities are the level of the state that works most closely with the population. The mayors and the many local municipal employees do valuable work every day. They are the ones who provide the public services that citizens use every day and ensure that they function at all times of the day and night. Accordingly, the local level must also be financially equipped and supported.”

Association of Cities General Secretary Thomas Weninger emphasizes on the occasion of the ongoing financial equalization negotiations: “It is essential for cities and municipalities that the planned future fund is equipped in accordance with the cities’ challenges. We therefore demand that the money from the fund be allocated to cities and municipalities according to vertical distribution.”

Finally, Thomas Weninger says regarding future challenges for cities: “Cities and communities are particularly affected by climate change. It is therefore important to support them, especially with the mobility transition, with appropriate funding measures from the federal and state governments and to develop these together with the cities.”
