“ÖVP Minister Polaschek also lacks the necessary courage to finally tackle the necessary reforms”

Vienna (OTS) “The black-green government has no vision for the future when it comes to education policy,” said FPÖ education spokesman NAbg today. Hermann Brückl stated in his contribution to the debate.

“Today the ÖVP finance minister spoke regarding the future of our children in his budget speech and said that performance and hard work should count for something. But it is precisely these necessary qualities that this government should teach children. Because performance creates personal advancement and performance also brings prosperity for our society. That would actually be the necessary message from ÖVP Education Minister Polaschek to the students, but he also fails to convey this to the students on their journey,” criticized Brückl.

“An important topic at the moment is the training opportunities in the area of elementary education. Apart from the fact that the large number of training offers has now become very confusing, this does not solve the prevailing problem – because the main problem for our schools is the lack of teaching staff. There is a lack of young people who are prepared to pursue the teaching profession. It is precisely this grievance that has brought us into this ongoing dilemma. There are still not fully trained students in the classrooms, and they have been for years now, and they still have to or should teach our children – that cannot be the permanent solution to the most urgent problem in the education sector, the shortage of teachers,” emphasized the FPÖ -Education speaker.

“But this teacher shortage is just the tip of the iceberg of the many problems in the school system. The excessive administrative burden, the dissatisfied teachers, the thoroughly politicized school system, the massive language problems in schools, the impractical reforms or the students who have serious deficiencies in the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic at the end of their school career are also symptomatic of the current poor state of our education sector. But Minister Polaschek also lacks the necessary courage to finally tackle the necessary reforms. “It is now time for an FPÖ-led government that might also set new priorities in the education sector,” emphasized the FPÖ education spokesman.
