22,413 deaths over 12 years

This study was conducted using data from 391,652 Britons aged 38 to 73. All were followed for 12 years and reported information on their walking speed. Over a median follow-up of 12.6 years, 22,413 deaths occurred among the panel. Looking at the data, the researchers found that brisk walkers were significantly less likely to die from any cause. They also noticed greater improvements in heart disease.
