A format that’s still just as cute, with a more attractive external screen
This is already what we appreciated on previous versions, here the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 keeps its small, cute, compact and practical format on a daily basis. It can be used with one hand without difficulty, and can be viewed either as a classic smartphone, or with the very comfortable and well-designed additional screen. This is also one of the main new features of this generation: its external screen enlarges and becomes almost square, going from 1.9 inches to 3.4 inches. Still Amoled, it becomes more practical for viewing widgets, quickly responding to a message or taking a photo.
By opening the phone, we still discover a 6.7-inch Amoled panel, this time in Full HD+ (2640 × 1080 pixels) and a more interesting refresh rate varying from 1 to 120 Hz. It offers a visual experience of more enjoyable to watch your content. As for the design, the finishes are more refined, in particular thanks to the new hinge which allows the phone to close completely. In terms of photography, it offers well-saturated shots that are pleasing to the eye. On the other hand, the flip phone is especially less versatile and the absence of a telephoto lens is a real frustration. The possibility of taking a selfie using the main sensor is nevertheless very appreciable.
Powerful, but not very durable
To run efficiently, the Z Flip 5 relies on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, coupled with 8 GB of RAM. Result: everything is fast, fluid, efficient. It is capable of easily running applications and games, all while enjoying a fluid user experience under OneUI 5.1.1. On the other hand, the smartphone heats up quite quickly when you push it to its limits.
To finish on autonomy, this is still not its strong point. It is equipped with a modest 3,700 mAh battery. If you use it fairly moderately, this phone offers decent battery life to last a day, especially if you take advantage of the external screen. But if you have more intensive use, you will have to go through the recharge box more often. In this regard, the charge limited to 25 W will take time to refill the battery: allow 1 hour 10 minutes to go from 5% to 100%.
