The leader of the Pastef party, Ousmane Sonko, decided to resume his hunger strike as a sign of solidarity with his “valiant patriotic sisters” who were unjustly arrested for expressing their political opinions. These women have been detained for several months at the Liberté 6 penal camp and in other prisons, some of them now deprived of all contact with their loved ones. This reaction from Sonko aims to support these women who, he thinks, have exercised their legitimate right by resorting to a hunger strike.

Thank you so much!
I give thanks to God and invite you today, more than ever, to greater commitment, determination and solidarity in the face of this dictatorship which only has less than five months left. I therefore remind you of our constitutional right to resistance.

As for us, we can only resort to the means of resistance that our current situation allows.
This is why I decided to resume my hunger strike:
– to mark my solidarity with our valiant patriot sisters unjustly arrested for expressing their political opinions, then imprisoned and detained for several months at the Liberté 6 penal camp and in other prisons, and today deprived, for some, of everything contact with their loved ones, simply for having exercised their legitimate right to resort to a hunger strike;
– to protest once morest my arbitrary and electoral detention, and that of hundreds of patriots, and to demand an end to it.
Dear compatriots, here and in the diaspora, dear activists and supporters.
I invite you to have more perseverance and combativeness, determination and endurance.
They are fighting for the next five months. We are fighting for the next 50 years.
