Belgian Ryanair staff refuse to fly to Israel. Of the 221 crew members of the low-cost airline consulted by the unions in Charleroi, all of them refused to board a plane which would go to Israel in the coming days, according to La Libre Belgique on Tuesday.

The Irish carrier wanted to resume flights from the Carole tarmac to Tel Aviv this Thursday, despite the intense conflict situation in the region, but ultimately gave up. For a certain time, however, management threatened its staff by explaining that there would be consequences for those who resisted, denounced Ivan Bomfin, CNE delegate.

What makes Ryanair staff grumble is that the company might, according to them, “happen“of his flights.”If it was to organize humanitarian flights, we would have volunteered without problem“, says the union representative. “But here, Ryanair is playing with our lives just to make money. They want to bringtourists‘, or I don’t know what type of passengers, in a war zone, at prices ten times higher than their usual fares. It does not mean anything.

Union official at the CNE, Didier Lebbe recalls that a member of staff has the right to refuse a flight if he does not feel physically or psychologically able to operate it.

Ryanair finally indicated that it had canceled the flight between Charleroi and Tel Aviv scheduled for this Thursday. But the company is maintaining, for the moment, the one scheduled for Saturday.
