The United States Administration announced that it had selected seven regional centers for hydrogen production. These projects will receive a total of 7,000 million dollars in subsidies to stimulate the generationas part of the management’s objective of promoting the clean economy and decarbonizing industries.

The projects in the seven selected centers will include the different forms of hydrogen productionboth green hydrogen from electrolysis of water using renewable energythe pink you use nuclear electricity for electrolysis and blue from gas natural with carbon capture and storage.

«$7 billion of this program will go to the development of regional clean hydrogen centers that will catalyze multi-state hydrogen ecosystems that, ultimately, will expand and connect to form a national hydrogen economy,” they highlighted from the White House.

Projects included are: Mid-Atlantic, Appalachian, California, Gulf Coast, Heartland, Midwest, and Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Facilities. Centers in Appalachia, the Gulf Coast Hydrogen Center in Texas and the central Midwest They will produce hydrogen from natural gas plus carbon capture and storage.

«Up to $1 billion of the remaining funding will be used to support demand of the centers in order to promote innovative end uses of clean hydrogen,” they explained.

Hydrogen developers and producers from various sources await guidance from the US Treasury Department on which technologies are eligible to receive subsidies from the Inflation Reduction Law. The guide is expected to be published by the end of the year.

Although almost no hydrogen is currently produced in the country, the figure might rise to 10 million metric tons by 2030, according to a report from the Department of Energy. The administration has initiated an effort to reduce costs by 80% to $1 per kilogram by 2030. This is one of the biggest barriers to the widespread use of hydrogen.
