Design and connectivity
Motorola Razr 40 Ultra
We started with the design with two very different looks. The Razr is a flexible clamshell type, which is compact when closed, and the size of a normal cell phone when opened. It has two horizontal cameras placed individually on the rear, around the edge of the secondary screen. On the other hand, the Edge opts for a more square camera block, which highlights the main lens.
When not folded, the 40 Ultra is thinner than a conventional top, in addition to being the lightest of the pair. Both have an aluminum construction and glass back, with Gorilla Glass protection. However, the Victus version of the foldable is superior to the fifth generation present in the 30 Ultra.
Motorola Edge 30 Ultra
Both are IP52 certified, with resistance to dust and water splashes, not to mention the hole-shaped notch. The Razr contains a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button, while the Edge’s biometric sensor is embedded under the screen.
None of them support storage expansion, due to the absence of a microSD card slot. At least, sixth generation Wi-Fi and NFC are present in both, for contactless payments. The Bluetooth 5.3 of the flexible model is more advanced than the 5.2 version present in the common top.
With a more modern design and full of additional benefits, the Razr 40 Ultra opens the scoreboard.

Bodies
On one side is the Razr’s 6.9-inch 22:9 aspect ratio pOLED internal display. On the other, the Edge’s 6.67-inch OLED display appears. The foldable’s panel is 10-bit, which guarantees reproduction of more than 1 billion colors, the same amount as the common top.
Both also offer a high level of brightness and support for HDR10+, to improve streaming. Not to mention the Full HD+ resolution present in them. The 30 Ultra is the only one to provide protection once morest scratches, thanks to Gorilla Glass 5.
The 40 Ultra features 165 Hz at a variable rate, as it is an LTPO type. Unlike the conventional model, which stays at 144 Hz without a large variation amplitude. The flexible also has a touch sensor that responds at 360 Hz, for lower latency in games.
Another feature of the foldable is its more square 3.6-inch external screen, with high definition, good brightness and a rate of 144 Hz.
It’s another point for the Razr.

As
Motorola didn’t skimp on audio in its top of the line models. That’s why we have a stereo system in them, which uses the call speaker as a secondary channel. In addition to support for Dolby Atmos, which improves the immersive user experience.
Both guarantee high sound power, with a volume that does not distort at maximum. Not to mention the excellent sound quality, which provides a good balance between bass, mids and treble.
None of them contain a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack. At least, the Edge comes with an accessory with a USB-C plug in the packaging.
In details, the point goes to the 30 Ultra.

System
The Razr comes with Android 13 natively, while the Edge still has version 12 of the “little robot” from the factory. Motorola guarantees three software updates each time, which allows for slightly greater longevity for the foldable device.
The Motorola interface has no major changes, which allows for good fluidity, also driven by high refresh rates. Both still have 5G technology to guarantee a fast mobile network.
When we go to the features, both devices have the famous gestures to open the camera and turn on the flashlight, in addition to Ready For, which transforms the cell phone into a portable PC. The 40 Ultra still has some differences, such as the Razr Retro mode and shortcuts on the external screen.
With greater longevity and additional features, we have another point for the foldable device.

Performance
Both the flexible model and the conventional flagship come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 platform. But that doesn’t mean they have the same performance in practice. Our tests indicated an advantage for the Edge, which finished both rounds 14 seconds less than the Razr.
Despite having the same chip, benchmarks showed a big difference between them. The 30 Ultra recorded a score regarding 46% higher than the 40 Ultra on AnTuTu. At least, all games have great performance and fluidity on both devices.
This is an easy stitch for the conventional top.

Battery
The Razr is powered by a 3,800 mAh battery, much smaller than the Edge’s 4,610 mAh battery. Despite the distance on paper, our standardized tests didn’t indicate that big of a difference in practical duration. The 30 Ultra still wins, with just over 26 and a half hours of total autonomy, but only something close to 40 minutes more.
When charging, the foldable comes with a 33 W adapter, which takes approximately an hour to reach 100%. Here Motorola prioritized the common top, with its 125 W accessory, which needs just 21 minutes to complete the process.
It’s another point for Edge.

Cmera
The foldable has only two rear cameras, compared to a triple photographic set present in the conventional flagship. The main 12 MP of the Razr even records a lot of details and good colors, but you will have higher contrast and better textures on the Edge, with its more advanced 200 MP sensor. The 30 Ultra’s night mode also proved to be more efficient, preserving colors and better dealing with noise.
Their ultrawide takes good photos, but the higher resolution of the common top allows for greater sharpness. At least the wider lens of the two has autofocus, for good quality macros. The Edge features a telephoto camera with twice the optical zoom, for better quality images from afar.
The 30 Ultra scores with its versatile set and more advanced sensors.

The front camera of these smartphones has high resolution and captures selfies full of details and with colors close to ideal during the day. Apart from the portrait mode, it is efficient in cropping and without leaving the background blown out. The Edge gets better sharpness in night selfies.
But the Razr is more versatile due to the possibility of using the rear assembly to take photos from the front, with the help of the external screen. This setting allows you to use ultrawide for wider selfies with multiple people.
The Edge scores for the best photos at night; and the Razr scores for greater versatility.

Motorola officially launched these two devices in Brazil. The Razr 40 Ultra was available for a suggested price of R$8,000, more expensive than the R$7,000 initially charged for the Edge 30 Ultra. The foldable can now be found for around R$6,500, but it remains well above the common top, which appears in current retail at a cost of R$3,500.
Thus, Edge closes the Comparison with the last point.

Finished
In this duel between the foldable cell phone and Motorola’s conventional flagship, the Edge 30 Ultra proved to be even more complete. It provides a sound system with compatible headphones in the box, better multitasking performance, longer battery life and shorter recharge time, in addition to a more versatile set of cameras on the rear and superior performance at night for both videos and selfies.
The Razr 40 Ultra stands out for the use of rear cameras on the front, for its more modern and lighter design, for having a larger and more fluid main screen, as well as an external secondary, and for its system with greater longevity and more features. The problem is that it ends up charging much more than the traditional model for what it delivers.
